4 ways to play the Old Course, St Andrews

There are a number of ways to book a tee time on the Old Course St Andrews. We will take you through the options open to you.

1. St Andrews Links Advanced reservations

After July 2017 St Andrews Links will advise on how to make an advanced reservation for 2018. This is making a booking direct with St Andrews Links.

2. Old Course Ballot /St Andrews Lottery

The ballot is available for groups of golfers between 2 and 4 players.

Each year the nearly 50% of the tee times on the Old Course are allocated to the Ballot. Names are entered to St Andrews Links booking team 48 hours before the day of play. Names must be entered before 14.00 and usually just after 16.00 you will know if you will be playing in two days time or not. Names can be entered by telephone or online. You can find out if you were successful by calling the booking team or by downloading St Andrews Links app.

If you plan to use the ballot, then we advise you to stay few days in St Andrews to increase your chances of play.

3. Single golfers

Single golfers cannot enter the ballot. The only way for a single golfer to play the Old Course is to check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play. The Old pavilion is located next to the first tee. The staff will be on location at 06.00 in High season and will do their best to pair you up with a two or three ball. It would be very unusual for a group to refuse a single golfer.

Golfers have been known to queue from 01.00 in the morning in the high season. We’d recommend you get there no later than 03.30 in the high season. However it has been known for golfers to check in throughout the day and play a few hours later.
